Custom technical training from Skydome Consulting
Training built around the network your team runs.
We write and teach courses in voice, networking and security for one organization at a time: on your platforms, at your team's level, with a lab for every topic. We bring more than 20 years of training experience to each one.
- Place a test call and capture it at the gateway
- Read the trace and find the last message that was answered
- Capture on both sides of the firewall and compare
- Correct the rule, repeat the call, record the result
You may recognize one of these
They are the reasons teams ask us for a course of their own.
The public course covered a product version you do not run and a design you would never build.
Your engineers passed the exam and still hesitate in front of a real outage.
The migration date is set, and the team has only seen the sales demonstration.
New staff need the fundamentals before they can be useful on call.
A catalog course is written for everyone. Your team is not everyone.
Most technical training teaches a product. It works through the features in the order the manual lists them, on a version and a design chosen by the course author. Your engineers come back knowing the menus and still unsure what to do on Monday.
We start from the other end. What does this team have to be able to do, on which systems, by what date? The course is built backwards from that: the tasks first, the theory where a task needs it, and a lab for each one.
Skydome Learning is the training practice of Skydome Consulting. Our instructors are engineers who design, repair and migrate these systems for a living, and we have more than 20 years of experience teaching what we do.
What we teach
Four subject areas. Most courses draw on more than one.
Voice and collaboration
For the engineers who run phone systems: call control, gateways, session border controllers and cloud calling.
Example topicsCloud calling migration
For a team that is about to move an on-premises phone system to a cloud platform, and will run it afterwards.
Example topicsNetworking
For the teams that operate campus, branch and wide-area networks and are asked to change them safely.
Example topicsNetwork security
For the engineers who write the rules: firewalls, segmentation and remote access, without breaking what runs through them.

How it is delivered
The same course can be taught in more than one way.
On site
An instructor in your classroom, with your team together and away from the queue. Best when the course ends with work on your own design.
Live online
The same instructor and the same labs over video. Short sessions spread across several weeks fit well beside a project.
Recorded, at your own pace
Recorded lessons and the lab guides, for engineers who join the team later or cannot attend live. Ask us about lab access for self-paced learners.
Every course comes with a lab.
Watching an instructor type is not practice. Each topic has an exercise that every attendee completes on working systems, in Skydome Consulting's own test environment, Skydome Lab.
Built like the real thing
Networks, firewalls, call control and cloud platforms, connected the way an enterprise connects them.
Yours to break
Labs include the failures: the link that drops, the rule in the wrong order, the call that connects with no audio.
Reached from anywhere
Attendees work in the lab from your classroom or from home. We send access details before the first session.
How a course comes together
Four steps, whether the course is half a day or a week.
Tell us about the team
What they run today, what is changing, and what they should be able to do when the course ends.
Agree the outline
We write a course outline with the topics, the labs, the length and the format. Nothing is built until you have approved it.
We build it and teach it
Slides, a lab manual and a lab environment, prepared for your platforms and taught by an engineer who does the work.
Your team keeps it
Every attendee keeps the materials, and the runbooks they wrote during the labs go back to work with them.
Tell us who needs to learn what.
Describe the team, what they run, and what is changing. An instructor will read it and reply with questions or an outline.
